You read the announcements, you voted on our poll and now the time has come to announce who's heading to DevCon courtesy of that old pot-bellied Uncle whose kisses are always too slobbery, Uncle FMPug.

When we devised the contest, it was our hope that a handful of members would weave a tale or two worth reading. As time marched forward, entries flooded in, ending in a grand total of 358 contestants! Never anticipated were the number of entrants who embraced their inner-author and spun tales worthy of news rack magazine glory. Whittling down these fantastic fables took an entire Sunday afternoon and entirely too many refills of caffeinated Mango Iced Tea. Methodically, 358 was reduced to 70, and lastly, in honor of FileMaker 9, down to the top 9 contestants. That's when the hard times grew even harder. Hopped-up on fruity tea and armed with boldly colored Sharpie markers, the stories were dissected, debated, disputed and ranked from five, down to three, and finally, the winner was chosen.

After reading these stories, it was unanimously decided to pay homage to these top tale tellers, to reward them for their time, their effort and their outpouring of support for FMPug. Good ole Uncle FMPug has decided to reach deep into his leisure suit pockets and dole out some dough for the four runners-up. Each of the Top 5 contestants will be awarded some of Uncle Pug's hard-earned dough to help with those pesky DevCon expenses. FMPug.com, the leading FileMaker-centric networking community unveiled their 2008 DevCon Scheduler today; marking the follow-up to the successful introduction made in 2007. The Scheduler enables any/all attendees the ability to see the entire conference schedule, including all applicable details and a snapshot of the conference wing’s floor plan directly on their respective web-enabled device. Last year the Scheduler was targeting attendees with the then newly launched Apple iPhone, however this year the interface has been redesigned to look its best on any web-enabled device. As it relates to the redesign and bringing all web-enabled devices in to the fold, Andy Gaunt, Founder of FMPug.com had this to add:
“My personal love affair/bias toward the iPhone aside, I wanted to ensure the Scheduler could be successfully utilized and look equally ‘cool’ on any web-enabled device. After all, we can’t play favorites when it comes to keeping these attendees organized, on-time and heading in the right direction.”
Andy went onto explain that all attendees will be able to view the schedules and floorplan, however an additional feature has been added for members of FMPug which allows them to log-in and record their personal schedule of conference sessions.
“We had to add something a little extra special for our members. Using the assigned code from their FMPug Member Page, they’ll be able to log-in once, bookmark that page and maintain their entire schedule for conference sessions. Registrations, overviews, lunches, and dinners will be available at their finger tips without the need to dig through page after page of information or cut and paste applicable details to their respective calendar program.”
FMPug fully expects the Scheduler to once again be well-received by the attendees. Andy concluded:
“It was simply incredible to see the number of people last year wandering around DevCon studying their Scheduler. FMPug members have expressed concern about costs of the annual FileMaker DEVCON and have also expressed a preference for a different type venue and a different time of year for the conference. They also want videos of the sessions to be made available following the conference. These and other fascinating insights come from the results of the first ever post-DEVCON survey of FMPug members and their roles in the FileMaker community. The survey was conducted following the last FileMaker Developer Conference in August 2007.

DevCon Commemorative Afghan
Each year the DevCon Commemorative Afghan is awarded to a member of the FileMaker community in recognition for their contribution to developers and users alike. This year Andy Gaunt, founder of FMPug was selected for contributions to the FileMaker community world-wide.

Andy Gaunt is the founder of FMPug - Uniting FileMaker Pro Users & Groups around the world. With numerous chapters and still growing, Andy has created a more “connective” philosophy, merging pre-existing user groups with newly formed locales and assembling them under a single umbrella. By creating this syndicate and managing it centrally, each group is now inter-connected through FMPug, allowing each user group to have expanded resources within their reach. Anyone who knows Andy will tell you that “Andy works tirelessly to spread the word about worthwhile FileMaker resources, products and training. His FMPug site has aggregated listings of FileMaker products and training courses that alongside his published technical articles and product reviews are part of a resource library that's becoming more and more important to FileMaker Pro users and developers."
In addition to running one of the liveliest FileMaker Pro User Groups, he's showing other user group coordinators how to do the same all over the world. Constantly evangelizing anything positive happening in the FileMaker universe, Andy personifies "outstanding contribution to the FileMaker community". “I have personally not experienced anyone with such selfless enthusiasm for the FileMaker community. He has successfully taken a fantastic idea and from that has significantly built a stable and open community in the past year alone. In addition, his efforts are forward thinking and utilize and challenge all of the latest FileMaker Web technologies. I consider Andy to be a leader in building and strengthening the FileMaker community". On a side note, Andy is using the latest technologies and techniques to make the FMpug website truly a calling card for what and how FileMaker can be used in a real web environment.
