At 360Works, we are impressed with the features added in the new FileMaker 11 release. We know that our customers are eager to upgrade, and so we are happy to officially announce that all 360Works products have been tested and are supported with this new version. Charts v1.631 – This easy-to-use plugin enables users to create various types of graphical charts within FileMaker solutions. Although bug fixes will be continue to be released for this plugin, no new features will be added since this feature is included with FileMaker 11.

Patterns v1.681 – Patterns lets developers performs Regular Expression (Regex) matching within FileMaker Pro.

The FileMaker Pro 11 and FileMaker Pro 11 advanced products have a new security feature called File Access Protection that allows developers to control which external files can access parts of FileMaker solutions for purposes of table aliases on the Relationship Graph, value list access, and script activation. Developers now have the option of restricting that access to only an approved set of files. The new versions also have several other new security features.

FileMaker Server 11 Advanced also has a new feature that I like a great deal. In response to many requests, FMI has added role-based administration to this product. This allows the server administrator
to designate subgroups of files and sub-administrators for those file groups and to assign different privileges for each sub-administrator.
This feature will prove very useful both for larger organizations and for smaller ones as well, where the developer may want to designate a sub-administrator with privileges to monitor activities, but not necessarily to control all of them.

AdminAnywhere and SafetyNet, which extend the functionality of FileMaker Server, have not yet been updated. SafetyNet makes it easy to set up remote backup routines for FileMaker Server administrators. Files are stored on Amazon’s “cloud-based” online file storage service, which runs on the same reliable and fast infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.

For example, using SafetyNet to back up a 275 MB FileMaker solution every night, with 7 days of previous versions stored online, would cost about $5.00 per month.

- EMAIL PDF's: Users can now directly email any document in the system as a PDF in the preview window without having to save the PDF to their computer and then manually create the email attaching the PDF to it.

- SYNCHRONIZATION: Tasks and contacts can now be synchronized with Outlook and Entourage using Exchange Server. Great for both Mac and Windows users especially if you need to bring data with you on a laptop or PDA. Requires additional plug-in.

- INTERNATIONAL ADDRESS FORMATS: There is now the ability to specify your own address formats for printing addresses throughout the system. So now when you print or email an invoice for example the address format can be automatic based on the country of the recipient or if no country is specified then the format is based on your default address format in Setup.

- TOOL TIPS: Extensive use of 'mouse over' tool tips throughout the system so users can easily see what icons perform what function as they are getting to know the system. Tooltips can be turned on or off for each individual user.

Everyone at Excelisys loves to hear that rhetorical question asked: "Woah!
You can do THAT in FileMaker?" Oh yeah, you can. Well this is one of those
moments, and we just posted a demo file and white paper about it up on our
Excelisys web site.

With the new script triggers introduced in the recently released FileMaker
Pro 10, we all can now deliver a richer user experience to our customers -
one that incorporates a familiar and elegant interface mechanism:
drag-and-drop.

The new demo file we've posted is fully unlocked, requires FileMaker Pro 10,
and includes three interface examples of the drag-and-drop technique. There
is also an embedded PDF white paper that further explains how the whole
thing is built, with sample code.

The most obvious use is sorting. Let's say you're in a band and you're
trying to organize a set list. Just drag the song titles into the order you
want, or change it up again just by dragging. How long have we wanted this
feature?

Another great use is building a list. Let's say you're managing the
receiving dock in a warehouse and you have two lists: the one on the left
shows four items ordered on a PO, while the list on the right is blank but
will include the items you are receiving. Today you only received one item,
so you drag that item from the list on the left into the list on the right.
Easy, right?

But here's yet another great example: nesting in a hierarchical interface.
We've previously posted a tip on how to build a hierarchical interface, so
here's how to - BAM! - kick it up a notch. Let's say you have an outline for
a presentation, and you decide to move some of your subtopics to another
parent topic. By just dragging the subtopic to another topic in the list,
you have rearranged your outline - any nested subtopics in the item you
moved are automatically moved with it, just as you'd expect.

And that's when it hits you... THIS is FileMaker???

FmPro Migrator Developer Edition's Table Consolidation feature performs an automated batch copy of tables/fields, TOs, relationships, layouts and scripts. Automated re-mapping of TOs is performed within each script and layout object. Script and layout dependencies are resolved during the automated two-pass processing of scripts and layouts.

FmPro Migrator Developer Edition performs the automated conversion of Bento 1.x & Bento 2.x files to FileMaker Pro 10. Users of any version of Bento may upsize their database files to FileMaker Pro 10 for increased performance, multi-user and cross-platform compatibility. FileMaker Pro developers can use Bento to quickly prototype professional-looking forms, which can then be converted and copied into FileMaker Pro with FmPro Migrator Developer Edition.

San Diego, CA – December 18, 2008 - Productive Computing, Inc., a Platinum member of the FileMaker Business Alliance, today announced the acquisition of the FileBooks Link plug-in product line from HAPPY Software, Inc. and the release of a newly enhanced version of the FM Books Connector plug-in.

“This acquisition and product release introduces the consolidation of the two predominant methods developers use when integrating FileMaker Pro with QuickBooks into a single plug-in. As a result, the FileBooks Link product is no longer available for sale however this new version of the FM Books Connector plug-in now offers the additional XML functionality with nearly identical function calls used with the FileBooks Link plug-in. In addition we have detailed technical documentation outlining which FM Books Connector functions correspond to which FileBooks Link functions. These extra functions and documentation were added to the FM Books Connector product in order to provide those developers who are more familiar with the FileBooks Link plug-in an easy and familiar way to use the FM Books Connector plug-in.

Constantly evangelizing anything positive happening in the FileMaker universe, Andy personifies "outstanding contribution to the FileMaker community". “I have personally not experienced anyone with such selfless enthusiasm for the FileMaker community. He has successfully taken a fantastic idea and from that has significantly built a stable and open community in the past year alone. I consider Andy to be a leader in building and strengthening the FileMaker community". On a side note, Andy is using the latest technologies and techniques to make the FMpug website truly a calling card for what and how FileMaker can be used in a real web environment.
