The 2.6 Million Dollar Dev

Thursday 14th December
7:00 PM to 9:00pm

FileMaker, Inc (The Wedge)
5201 Patrick Henry Dr.
Santa Clara, CA 95054

Meeting Topic
See --- This presentation is the saga of how, in a single year, an in-house FileMaker developer successfully fulfilled the major promises of an unsuccessful 7-year, $2.6 million implementation of an electronic content management system. Eric Matthews, will reveal the not-so-advanced FileMaker techniques and business strategies he leveraged to achieve quick and affordable success where all the king’s horses and all the king’s men failed repeatedly and royally. He will also describe what it takes to become (or to hire or nurture) a 2.6 million dollar in-house developer. Who knows? If you’re a contractor, you might even deduce from this presentation how to score a winning 2.6 million dollar contract. --- Eric Matthews:Working with FileMaker Pro since a demo download of version 4 in 1997, Eric Matthews first introduced a peer-shared FileMaker database to San José State University's Admissions & Records department to quickly and easily replace an interdepartmental exchange of paper and Excel sheets. Since then, Eric and his colleagues have leveraged FileMaker Pro and Server into almost every workflow process in Enrollment Services, and helps other departments and organizations to implement their own solutions. With dozens of FileMaker solutions developed and maintained, he has even underbid and outperformed two FBA Platinum level consultancies (by thinking inside the box), and has converted and extended the life of four electronic content management systems. Eric swiftly implemented solutions for university admissions, letters publications, document management, EDI translation, and much more. Eric is a FileMaker 9, 10, 11, and 12 Certified Developer; and a DIGFM co-chair. For exercise and relaxation, he juggles, teaches people to juggle, and is the staff advisor for the juggling club at SJSU. For fun, he found Pokemon Go very dissatisfying, because he catches and collects, releases or raises real creatures in real life.
